The Ghost of Tsushima day one patch will be 7.7GB, and with the average Internet speed in the United States being 18.7mb/s, it would take players just under seven minutes to download the patch and enjoy the game.

The update, which is reportedly available through the PlayStation Store’s servers, features “various localization fixes” and “other bug fixes”. The patch notes don’t provide any more information than that though this has likely been done on purpose by Sucker Punch Productions in order to avoid any Ghost of Tsushima story spoilers from hitting the web. The last first-party PS4 exclusive, The Last of Us Part 2, was leaked heavily online before release and few would want to see anything like that happen with Ghost of Tsushima.

Some fans may be surprised at how big the Ghost of Tsushima day one update is. It’s not as large as, say, the day one patch for Kingdom Come Deliverance which was bigger than some full game releases, but it could take those on slower Internet connections a while to download. For comparison, the full game of Ghost of Tsushima has a file size of 50GB, making this patch nearly a fifth of that.

However, it’s understandable that Sucker Punch Productions has found so many bugs in the game given how grand the game’s map is. The developer has confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima is the biggest game it has developed, larger than the games in the inFamous series, which were also open-world adventures.

Gamers have seen countless bugs in other open-world games, such as characters falling through the floor, character faces not loading properly, and story progression being blocked. Ghost of Tsushima will also be the last, major PS4 exclusive before the PS5 releases in holiday 2020 and Sucker Punch Productions will want its release to go as smoothly as it possible can. That may mean having to wait a little longer before jumping into the game, but a 7.7GB update seems like a small price for a seamless experience.

Ghost of Tsushima launches on July 17, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
