When attempting to decide the fate of Lord Shimura in Ghost of Tsushima, fans should ask themselves two primary questions, the first of which is what ending cutscene they wish to receive. Specifically, opting to kill Shimura results in an emotional moment where Jin stabs his uncle, and sparing him causes Jin to simply walk away. To note, it is not possible to see both of these cutscenes in a single playthrough, though they can be found in this video:

The second question to ask is what cosmetic reward the player would like to earn, as there is one associated with killing Lord Shimura and one associated with sparing him. Namely, fans that kill Jin’s uncle will receive the Righteous Punishment dye, which is white and can be applied the Ghost Armor in Ghost of Tsushima as well as the Ghost Headband and Mask. On the other hand, players that spare Lord Shimura will receive the red Vow of Vengeance dye.

While these are the main things to consider when trying to decide whether to kill or spare Lord Shimura in Ghost of Tsushima, it is worth mentioning that the choice does have a very slight impact on the post-credit scene. For instance, if the player kills Jin Sakai’s uncle then this scene begins with him sitting on the floor, and if they spare Lord Shimura the scene begins with Jin writing.

These differences are very slight, though, and they do not have any real impact on Ghost of Tsushima’s post-game. As such, they are unlikely to factor heavily into many players’ decisions about the fate of Lord Shimura, as the variations in the closing cutscenes and the cosmetic rewards that are described above are of much greater importance.
