As part of a major overhaul, the update has been delayed due to the work-from-home mandate brought on by COVID-19 which has slowed development down. The team AI update is one step in a larger overall refocus, addressing Breakpoint’s core issues brought up by fans. The feature was highly sought by fans of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint as evidenced in the response to a survey put out by the developer late last year.

The highly anticipated update was to fill a large gap missing within this new iteration in the Ghost Recon series. Team AI has been a part of the DNA of the franchise since its inception in 2001. Though the core gameplay of the series has remained unchanged, the overall focus on open world content, micro-transactions and the exclusion of team AI had left some fans yearning for the days or yore. Earlier this year, Ubisoft Paris released part one of the initial overhaul titled The Ghost Experience. This patch focused on the removal of gear levels, a customizable HUD and a focus on more tactical game play. The update also allowed players to turn off auto-healing to enhance realism akin to prior games.
With the new date set for July, the patch will combine the team AI addition, a new Gunsmith update and address some major exploits within the game. These updates are releasing along side the already planned content updates for the game and its season pass. Similar to Ghost Recon: Wildlands receiving a Predator update, Breakpoint saw the addition of the T-800 Terminator from the popular movie series, a tie in with the newest movie Terminator: Dark Fate.
Ubisoft has a long history of sticking with its franchises through major content updates regardless of their initial reception. Rainbow Six Siege has seen a plethora of additional content and changes since its release back in 2016 and For Honor, released in 2017, has also seen its share of support with new seasons providing goals for players to reach. so it’s no surprise that the game is receiving this amount of support despite Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s lackluster sales. The wait isn’t much longer and fans can look forward to more updates to the game in the mid-summer.
Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
